# Fitly AI vs MacroFactor

*MacroFactor is the better instrument. Fitly is trying to be the one using it.*

## What MacroFactor gets right, and it is a lot

The adaptive algorithm is the real thing: rather than locking you to a formula that was wrong on day one, MacroFactor recalculates actual energy expenditure weekly from your weight trend and logged intake, then moves your targets. It is the correct way to do this, it is better than what Fitly does, and it is why the app has its reputation. The methodology is published rather than hand-waved, there are no ads or upsell dark patterns, and it is meaningfully cheaper than Fitly. MacroFactor sells through in-app purchase and does not publish rates on the web, so check their app listing rather than a number quoted on a competitor site, including this one.

## The actual difference

MacroFactor is a measurement instrument: it gives you excellent numbers and trusts you to act on them. Fitly is built for the part after the number. Ask "I have 60g of protein left and 20 minutes, what should I eat" and it answers against your remaining macros, allergies and plan. Say your knee is bad and next week's programming changes.

Their own site sells MacroFactor Nutrition and MacroFactor Workouts as two distinct apps, each with its own trial, rather than one product covering both. In Fitly, training and nutrition are the same context by construction.

## Side by side

| Feature | MacroFactor | Fitly AI |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Adaptive calorie targets | Best in class, weekly TDEE recalculation | Trend-based, less sophisticated |
| Data transparency | Published methodology, a core value | Solid, but methodology not published |
| Food logging | Fast manual logging, curated database | Text, voice, photo, barcode, label |
| Training | A separate product: their site sells MacroFactor Nutrition and MacroFactor Workouts as two distinct apps | Same app, same context |
| Asking questions | Not conversational | Answers against your actual data |
| Apple Health | Syncs weigh-ins to feed the algorithm; activity deliberately not used for targets | Sleep, steps, burn, weigh-ins and workouts sync in; the agent reads them |
| Price | No free tier, only a trial; meaningfully cheaper than Fitly AI, and Workouts is sold separately | $9.99/mo without AI, $24.99/mo with; no free tier either |

MacroFactor feature comparison reflects the app as of August 2026.

## When you should stay with MacroFactor

- **You want the most accurate calorie targets available.** MacroFactor achieves that better than we do.
- **You already know what you are doing.** Experienced trackers are paying Fitly for judgment they do not need.
- **You are sceptical of AI estimation.** A reasonable position, and MacroFactor's approach will suit you better.
- **Price matters.** MacroFactor costs a fraction of what Fitly AI does.
