Fitly AI vs MacroFactor

MacroFactor is the better instrument. Fitly is trying to be the one using it.

Most comparison pages exist to explain why the other product is worse. This one does not, because MacroFactor is genuinely excellent at what it does. The honest question is whether you want a precision measurement tool or something that acts on your behalf.

What MacroFactor gets right, and it is a lot

The adaptive algorithm is the real thing. Rather than locking you to a formula that was wrong the day you entered your stats, MacroFactor recalculates your actual energy expenditure every week from your weight trend and your logged intake, then moves your targets accordingly. It is the correct way to do this, it is better than what Fitly does, and it is why the app has the reputation it has.

The surrounding decisions are just as good. The methodology is published rather than hand-waved. There are no ads, no upsell dark patterns, and no pretending a static Mifflin-St Jeor number is personalised. If you care about data quality, MacroFactor is the app in this category built by people who visibly care about it too.

It is also meaningfully cheaper than Fitly, against our $24.99 a month for the full agent tier. MacroFactor sells through in-app purchase and does not publish rates on the web, so check current pricing in their app listing rather than trusting a number quoted on a competitor's website, including this one.

The actual difference

MacroFactor is a measurement instrument. It gives you excellent numbers and trusts you to act on them, which for a certain kind of user is exactly right and faintly insulting to improve upon. You look at the target, you decide what to eat, you plan your own training, you notice your own patterns.

Fitly is built for the part after the number. You ask "I have got 60g of protein left and 20 minutes, what should I eat" and it answers against your actual remaining macros, your allergies and what is already in your plan. You say your knee is bad this week and next week's programming changes. You photograph a plate instead of itemising it. The product bet is that most people do not want a dashboard, they want something that does the work.

The other structural difference is training. Their own site sells MacroFactor Nutrition and MacroFactor Workoutsas two distinct apps, each with its own trial, rather than one product covering both. In Fitly, training and nutrition are the same context by construction, which is what makes "you lifted heavy today, eat more" possible without you wiring it together yourself.

Side by side

FeatureMacroFactorFitly AI
Adaptive calorie targetsBest in class. Recalculates your TDEE weekly from real weight and intake data.Targets recalculated from your trend, but the algorithm is less sophisticated.
Data quality and transparencyA core value. Expert-built, methodology published, no dark patterns.Solid, but we do not publish algorithm methodology the way they do.
Food loggingFast, well-designed manual logging with a curated database.Text, voice, photo, barcode or label; the agent parses whole meals at once.
TrainingA separate product. Their site sells MacroFactor Nutrition and MacroFactor Workouts as two distinct apps.In the same app and the same context as nutrition.
Asking it questionsNot a conversational product. You read the data and decide.Ask anything and it answers against your actual logs, targets and history.
PriceNo free tier, only a trial. Meaningfully cheaper than Fitly AI, and the Workouts app is sold separately.$9.99/mo without AI, $24.99/mo with the full agent. No free tier either.

Feature comparison reflects MacroFactor as of July 2026. We deliberately do not quote exact MacroFactor prices: subscriptions are sold in-app, vary by region and currency, and change without notice. For current pricing see MacroFactor's own site. If anything here is out of date, tell us at hello@fitly.chat and we will correct it.

When you should stay with MacroFactor

You want the most accurate calorie targets available. That is MacroFactor's whole design goal and it achieves it better than we do. If your priority is the number itself, use the better instrument.

You already know what you are doing. Experienced trackers who plan their own training and read their own trends are paying Fitly for judgment they do not need. That is a bad trade at four times the price.

You are sceptical of AI estimation. It is a reasonable position. If you would rather log deliberately and know exactly where every number came from, MacroFactor's approach will suit you better than ours.

Price matters. MacroFactor costs a fraction of what Fitly AI does. We think the scope justifies the difference if you are replacing several apps; if you are not, it does not.

Want the numbers acted on, not just measured?

Fitly AI is on iOS and the web. Start with a free trial, and if it is not doing the work for you, cancel from inside the app.
